Introducing Unicharm Group’s Initiatives on International Day of the Girl, October 11th

Unicharm Corporation(CEO & President: Mr. Takahisa Takahara) would like to introduce some of the activities we are promoting in each country and region to contribute to “Creating a society where girls can live their lives to the fullest, in conjunction with International Day of the Girl on October 11th

What is International Day of the Girl?

International Day of the Girl is a day of commemoration adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2011. It is a day to encourage everyone to eliminate violence and discrimination against women and to address the problems faced by women around the world.

Outline of Activities by Unicharm Group

In order to contribute to the realization of a “Cohesive Society”, our company operates in more than 80 countries and regions. In our business operations, we strive to face up to the actual situation of each country and region, and to contribute to the solution of the problems faced by the development of products and services.
For example, by providing correct knowledge of menstruation and how to use sanitary products in an easy-to-understand manner, and promoting the use of sanitary products, we support to reduce restrictions on activities during menstruation, and expand opportunities to school attendance and women’s advancement in society.

Introducing Case Studies of Initiatives in Each Country/Region


#NoBagForMe: Conducted “Menstruation Training for Everyone”.

・Period : From June 2019 – currently on going

・It is a training program for companies and organizations to improve their knowledge of menstruation and promote mutual understanding at  work. So far, 240 companies and organizations have taken this course. (as of September 2022)

Menstrual study and discussion on hygienic menstrual care.

・Period : June 2022

・In order to help them live their lives with dignity in their own way, a total of more than 1,000 high school and college students in India were  handed out "Sofy" products. In addition, discussions were held on correct knowledge about menstruation and hygienic menstrual care.

Conducted "Sofy" products sampling.

・Period : December 2021 - January 2022

・Conducted "Sofy" products sampling at five universities in Egypt to approx. 70,000 students. We heard positive comments from students who  tried the samples said, “No leakage, and the odor does not bother. Very gentle on the skin. I can concentrate on my studies even during my menstrual period.”

Conducted education on first menstrual period.

・Period : May 2022 – currently on going

・Conducted education on first menstrual period to girls aged 15 to 17 years old.

・More than 53,000 students attended in 214 schools in Malaysia.

Future Outlook

Our vision of a "Cohesive Society" is where all people in the world can coexist, supporting each other with equality and respect each other's individuality, by leaving no one behind. However, there are still disparities in education and employment opportunities between men and women, and this remains a major challenge in many countries and regions.

In order to solve this social issue, we provide comfortable products and services that allow women to lead their normal lives, free from the anxiety and discomfort of menstrual blood leakage even during menstruation. Through the development of these businesses, we hope to support women to attend school and to move on in society, and contribute to the realization of ascending women's social status.
