Unicharm Named to CDP 2025 "Supplier Engagement Leader"
Unicharm Corporation (President and CEO: Mr. Takahisa Takahara) is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as a CDP 2025 "Supplier Engagement Leader" by CDP, an international environmental non-profit organization headquartered in London, UK.
About CDP
CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project) is an international non-profit organization founded in the UK in 2000. CDP requests companies and local governments to disclose information on environmental issues such as climate change and water resource management and investigates and evaluates their initiatives. CDP’s disclosure and evaluation process is highly regarded by institutional investors worldwide.
About Supplier Engagement Assessment (SEA)
The Supplier Engagement Assessment (SEA) is a framework in which CDP evaluates how companies work with their suppliers to drive climate action across their entire supply chain in response to climate change. The assessment criteria include governance, Scope 3 emissions*1 management, target setting, risk management processes, and collaboration with suppliers.
About CDP 2025 "Supplier Engagement Leader"
Companies that receive top ratings in the SEA evaluation based on the CDP Climate Change Questionnaire are selected as "Supplier Engagement Leaders." Leader companies play a crucial role in the transition to a net-zero, sustainable economy by engaging their suppliers to act against climate change.
Our Initiatives
We have formulated our medium-to-long-term ESG goals, "Kyo-sei Life Vision 2035," setting a total of 16 key priority themes, indicators, and targets across four pillars: "Protecting and Supporting Our Health," "Protecting and Supporting the Health of Society," "Protecting and Supporting the Health of the Earth," and "The Unicharm Principles". Among these, we are promoting the following initiatives under the "Protecting and Supporting the Health of the Earth" pillar:
・Addressing Climate Change: Positioning addressing climate change as a critical issue, we are promoting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction. In October 2024, our targets were approved as “SBT 1.5°C targets” by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and we are continuously working on reduction activities.
・Renewable Energy Transition: Aiming to achieve 100% renewable energy for electricity used in our business operations by 2030, we are promoting the installation of solar power generation systems and the procurement of renewable energy certificates at a total of 36 sites in Japan and overseas. As of the end of 2025, 11 sites have achieved 100% renewable energy.
・Environmental Vision 2050: Aiming for "Zero Plastic Waste," "Zero CO₂ Emissions," and "Zero Natural Deforestation" by 2050, we are working to build a value chain that responds to climate change and respects biodiversity, while also reducing plastic consumption.
・GHG Protocol Compliance: To reduce GHG emissions across our entire value chain, we have established calculation rules compliant with the international standard "GHG Protocol*2." We obtain material-specific primary data from suppliers of major raw materials to calculate CO₂ emissions for each product more precisely and in a timely manner, while also promoting the thinning and weight reduction of materials used.
・Supply Chain Risk Management: As part of our response to social and environmental issues within our supply chain, we are driving risk management utilizing Sedex*3. As of the end of December 2025, we have established relationships on the Sedex platform with approximately 52% of our material suppliers for personal care and pet care products, as well as outsourced manufacturing factories, utilizing it for various risk assessments.
Moving forward, we will continue to strengthen cooperation with our suppliers and promote CO₂ emission reduction activities toward the realization of a low-carbon society.
