Unicharm Group Activities in Various Locations Aligned with International Women's Day on March 8th
Unicharm Corporation (CEO & President: Mr. Takahisa Takahara) is committed to contributing to the creation of a society where women around the world can live authentically through its business activities. In alignment with International Women's Day on March 8th, we would like to share some of our initiatives in various locations.
About International Women’s Day
International Women's Day is a global commemorative day celebrated on March 8th, honoring women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. It is also a day that calls for action to accelerate gender parity (gender equality). Organizations advocating for women's rights come together to celebrate women's accomplishments and engage in significant activities worldwide.
Introducing Initiatives in Various Countries and Regions
【Unicharm Middle East & North Africa Hygienic Industries Company S.A.E.】(Egypt)
Implemented classes to lecture proper menstrual knowledge and product selection in middle schools in Cairo, providing menstrual products
- Duration: March 2023 onwards
- Conducted classes to lecture proper menstrual knowledge and selecting appropriate menstrual products to approximately 3,000 students in eight middle schools in Cairo.
- By educating the younger generation who may have concerns about dealing with menstruation, we have improved satisfaction to 95%, after using menstrual products. Therefore, we plan to continue implementing these classes in the future.

Organized "Mahila Udyami Samman" event as part of "Project Jagriti"
- Duration: May 2023 onwards
- As part of "Project Jagriti" (Jagriti meaning "awakening"), which aims to promote women's economic empowerment and create "women entrepreneurs," we organized the "Mahila Udyami Samman" event (honoring women entrepreneurs).
- The event aimed to raise awareness among women entrepreneurs and instill a sense of pride in being a woman and being associated with "Sofy."
- Approximately 100 women, including government officials, participated in the event.

Distributed "Hajimete Karada Navi" (a booklet for girls experiencing their first menstruation) and provided menstrual education in middle schools located away from urban center
- Duration: November 2023 onwards
- Distributed booklets titled "Hajimete Karada Navi" containing basic knowledge about menstruation and menstrual pads to a total of 379 female students in four middle schools in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
- Collaborated with the schools to conduct special classes explaining the content of the booklets and how to use menstrual pads.
- We will continue to implement these classes and contribute to the improvement of women's health and education in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

Implemented a women's leadership development program.
- Duration: February to June 2024
- We conducted a program aimed at enhancing motivation for women to become leaders, aligning with our unique management model called "Management with Resonance."
- Female department heads at PT Uni-Charm Indonesia Tbk. shared their experiences of overcoming challenges even when their health was not at its best, lessons learned from failures, and moments when they felt their personal growth the most.
- A total of 28 female leadership candiddates and assistant managers participated in the program.

Share your heart for women and social equity
- Duration: 4th March to 31st March 2024
- Designed postcards and stickers that express the symbol of International Women’s Day and selling to employees for fund raises and will donate to “Social Equality Promoting Foundation”. Besides, we hope that our activities and fundraising donation would be a part for supporting humans who suffered from unfair actions.
- As part of our 2024 Corporate Brand Essence "Love Your Possibilities", we are distributing pink color ribbons through the Sofy Pink Ribbon Campaign. Employees are encouraged to wear these ribbons in their hair or on their straps to show support for awareness activities both internally and externally.
Future Outlook
Looking ahead, there still remains a significant gender gap in education and employment opportunities in many countries and regions, posing a major challenge. Our company aims to contribute to the improvement of women's social status by providing excellent products that free women from worries and discomfort during menstruation, allowing them to live their daily lives without interruptions. Through this, we strive to create opportunities for women to pursue education and career advancement, ultimately realizing the advancement of women in society.
